We are thrilled to announce that on July 1, 2024, the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC Court) re-elected its President, Claudia Salomon, and announced the new ICC Court composition for the 2024-2027 mandate. Among the appointees is our Partner, Isaiah Bozimo SAN, who has been named one of the seven new vice-presidents of the ICC Court. The other 12 vice-presidents were re-elected for another three-year term.
Composition of the ICC Court
The ICC Court consists of the president, 19 vice-presidents, and 170 members from 119 countries. Notably, Isaiah is the second vice-president of the Court appointed from Nigeria, Funke Adekoya SAN being the first.
Isaiah’s extensive expertise in commercial arbitration and dispute resolution makes him a valuable addition to the ICC Court. His significant contributions to the legal field were particularly highlighted during his tenure as Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice (July 2021 to May 2023), where he implemented key legal reforms, including the Delta State Arbitration Law of 2022 and Nigeria’s new Arbitration and Mediation Act 2023.
Isaiah has a remarkable track record in handling complex commercial disputes in both litigation and arbitration. His notable achievements include landmark cases that have influenced Nigeria’s legal landscape, such as establishing the doctrine of lender liability and setting precedents in garnishee proceedings. In arbitration, he has successfully represented the Delta State Government in a ₦1 billion claim, led teams on claims over ₦2 billion related to an international trade centre, and co-counselled in a significant $300 million gas supply dispute.
Recognised by institutions like Who’s Who Legal and the African Arbitration Academy, Isaiah is a Chartered Arbitrator of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and serves on the arbitration panels of SIAC, AFSA, and KIAC. His published works and contributions to the field, including the CIArb Guidance Note on Remote Dispute Resolution Proceedings, have been widely acknowledged. In June 2024, he was honoured by the Africa Arbitration Academy as a trailblazer in International Arbitration.
