We represented a high-net-worth individual in a novel lender liability suit against a Nigerian Commercial Bank. The Bank called in a multi-million share purchase facility, which it classified as a term loan. We successfully argued that the Bank harmed our client through its negligent management of the facility, with the court awarding exemplary damages in our client’s favour. The Court of Appeal confirmed the trial court’s decision, thus establishing a precedent concerning a bank’s duty of care when managing facilities on its customers’ behalf.

We represented a claimant corporation against a State-Owned Entity that defaulted on its payment obligations under a power purchase agreement. After a full hearing in arbitration, the tribunal awarded our client approximately USD 2.5 million. Following our application at the Federal High Court, the judge recognised the Award as binding and has granted permission to enforce it.

We are part of the legal team defending a State-Owned-Entity against an International Oil Entity’s (IOC) USD 600 million breach of contract claim. Following our preliminary objection impugning the claim’s validity, the IOC initiated settlement discussions with our client.
